The latest IBM Study highlights rising AI governance risks as enterprises struggle to manage rapidly expanding AI deployments.
|
According to a recent IBM Study conducted by the IBM Institute for Business Value, the adoption of artificial intelligence technology among enterprises has grown significantly but the management of these systems poses major challenges in most businesses. According to the survey conducted by IBM, more than 2,000 chief information officers (CIOs) and chief technology officers (CTOs) revealed that many firms are adopting AI faster than they are managing their deployment through their governance model.
In its findings, IBM discovered that about 68% of the respondents indicated that business teams are rolling out AI technology faster than IT teams can handle. The survey reveals the growing concerns regarding enterprise AI governance strategy, especially as companies progress from the experimentation phase to full AI agent deployment across multiple functions. Additionally, the survey shows that just 11% of the C-level executives surveyed believe that their firms are ready for the growth of AI agents over the coming year. Within seven years, firms will have seen an upsurge of at least 38% in the number of enterprise AI agent deployments.
Security and compliance continue to be major concerns. According to the survey, cybersecurity and compliance risks were indicated by almost 59% of participants as main factors hindering the implementation of AI-based systems. The average number of AI operations incidents per year is estimated at 54, ranging from data breaches to cascade failures and non-compliance issues. Such numbers underscore the increasing relevance of developing efficient AI risk management and compliance frameworks within corporate ecosystems.
As revealed by the study, companies applying AI governance principles to their systems witnessed far fewer incidents and better business performance. Enterprises possessing advanced tools for AI management have been able to implement 16 times more AI agents and show better operating margins and lower AI management costs.
IBM representatives have made remarks concerning the significance of creating adaptable and transparent AI infrastructures enabling quick innovation while allowing monitoring of AI-based systems. Companies deploying scalable solutions for managing AI infrastructure have reported the best ROI in AI deployment and preparedness for enterprise-wide AI implementation. Business Honor believes the latest IBM Study underscores a critical reality for enterprises worldwide: scalable AI success will increasingly depend on governance, visibility, and cybersecurity discipline as AI systems become deeply integrated into core business operations.
