Tesla will let customers buy some merchandise using Dogecoin, showing the company’s growing interest in simple, fast digital payment options.
Tesla is once again making waves in the retail and crypto currency industries. CEO Elon Musk stated that the business will begin accepting Dogecoin as payment for selected Tesla items on an experimental basis. It was announced through one of Musk's particular tweets, quickly raising the meme-based crypto currency, raising it up nearly 24 percent to around $0.20. "Tesla will make some merch that can be purchased with Doge & see how it goes," Musk wrote, regenerating interest among Dogecoin supporters and retail traders who closely track his influence.
According to Coinbase data, Musk's repeated statements about the token have led to Dogecoin's value increasing by more than 5,800 percent over the last year. Tesla has yet to announce which goods and products will be available for Dogecoin payments. The company currently sells a variety of products, from $50 apparel and accessories to $1,900 specialty items such as mini vehicle models, "Giga Texas" belt buckles, and the steel Cyberwhistle, which is inspired by its upcoming Cybertruck. Tesla just launched another unique product to its lineup: the Cyberquad for Kids, a small version of the electric quad bike based on the same vehicle.
Musk has supported Dogecoin, stating that it is better for everyday transactions than Bitcoin. In a recent Time magazine interview, after being named the publication's 2021 Person of the Year, he stated that "Bitcoin is not a good replacement for transactional currency." Earlier this year, he even asked his Twitter followers if Tesla should take Dogecoin, which drew strong support. As Tesla moves deeper into this field, the Dogecoin trial suggests a future in which purchasing everyday items or even tomorrow's technology could be made simpler by digital currency generated by internet culture.
