Sharp’s LDK+ electric minivan connects home devices, AI features, and a lounge-style interior.
Sharp, an established name for home electronics, is joining the electric vehicle (EV) market through the same path as Polytron in Indonesia. The LDK+ electric minivan is the latest project from the Japanese tech titan that depends on Foxconn's production capabilities and its R&D ability. It is expected to make its public debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month. With a more developed front, large LED headlights, and a closed grille with the Sharp badge, its dimensions now more closely match those of a standard minivan. The two-color finish offers a modern touch while maintaining the design's simplicity.
According to Carscoops, the minivan also has a sliding door, a perpendicular rear, standard mirrors, and visible door handles, all that suggest that production is almost ready. The cabin has flat floors, swivel driver seats facing the back, and an open, pillar-free interior. Three back passengers have a comfortable lounge area that is completed by console boxes with folding tables and soft lighting. The interior has been transformed into a mobile theater or remote workspace by replacing the original 65-inch screen with a projector and flexible screen.
The LDK+ links the car to home supplies like air conditioners and washing machines by linking to Sharp's AIoT platform. AI combines with solar panels and home battery systems, offers vehicle-to-home (V2H) operations, and analyzes user behavior. Sharp is yet to release information about the engine or battery, given the fact that it is built on the same design as Foxconn's Model A. Early in 2027, production will start in Japan, with a launch in the ASEAN market to follow.
Cars will be more than just a means of transportation due to the Sharp LDK+'s intelligent features, interior, and integrated home technologies. With the ability to become expansions of the living areas, combining travel, work, and pleasure in an easy manner to make transportation a completely combined, personalized experience.
