Neville slams Liverpool’s attack and defense after third straight Premier League loss
Liverpool's title ambitions were dealt a further blow as they suffered their third successive Premier League loss, losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The defeat, sealed by an Estevao stoppage-time goal, left Sky Sports expert and former Manchester United star Gary Neville unimpressed with the Reds' midfield and attacking display.Liverpool, under the stewardship of Arne Slot, had leveled through Cody Gakpo following Moises Caicedo's opening goal for Chelsea. But their charge was short-lived, and Estevao's late strike revealed deeper problems within the team.
"Liverpool's creative players were completely useless in the final stage," Neville opined during the Gary Neville Podcast. "Gakpo, Salah — the wastefulness was unbelievable. Wirtz looked lost and out of touch. That's not the way you chase the game." Neville also spoke about Liverpool's defense, highlighting a lack of solidity at full-back. He specifically mentioned Milos Kerkez as appearing "like a youth team player" and stated Jeremie Frimpong and Andy Robertson are finding it difficult to cope with the rigors of premier league competition. “We’ve got a title race now,” added Neville. “Arsenal is taking advantage while Liverpool is slipping. They’ve got the talent, but their full-backs and midfield need to step up.”
Manager Arne Slot admitted that summer changes and limited training time have impacted the team’s cohesion. “We’ve had many changes and not enough time to integrate everyone. It’s about building consistency.” Arsenal is now leading the Premier League, Liverpool has to rebuild rapidly to remain in the title race. Under the increasing pressure, Slot's team has a vital time to regain form and mend the cracks — on the defense and in terms of creativity.
