IBM transforms cricket with AI-powered insights, enhancing team strategy, player performance, and fan engagement.
IBM is a famous leader in artificial intelligence and cloud computing that is introducing new technologies that will change the way professional cricket is played and appreciated. At its Think Mumbai 2025 event, IBM showcased the world's first athletic AI experience using Watsonx, its advanced AI and data platform for businesses.
The business showed how this technology may improve decisions for actual teams and coaches, going beyond basic simulations. IBM wants to use AI to improve player performance, game strategy, and audience enjoyment.
A key part of this project is IBM’s Cricket IQ Analytics Platform. This new system uses generative AI to study important factors like player fitness, mental readiness, game conditions, and the environment. It then gives useful insights in simple language that coaches and teams can use to make smarter choices quickly. This helps reduce guesswork and improves performance on the field.
One of India’s top state cricket associations is already working with IBM to use this platform, and the company is also in talks with an Indian Premier League (IPL) team. According to IBM’s Sports Survey 2025, Indian fans are leading the way in digital sports engagement. The survey found that 86% of Indian fans trust AI-generated content, and 91% use sports apps as one of the highest rates in the world. Inside stadiums, most fans use apps to follow live stats and commentary. Looking to the future, 93% believe AI will shape how they follow sports by 2027. IBM’s latest move shows how technology can connect teams, data, and fans in exciting new ways.
