New partnership supports agritech entrepreneurs, fostering rural innovation and sustainable farming growth.
South East Technological University (SETU) and Dungarvan Enterprise Centre (DEC) teamed up to support new business for those working with agricultural technology and related areas. Their goal is to help entrepreneurs in Dungarvan and the surrounding parts of west Waterford develop and expand their ideas. DEC recently opened a new facility in Fairlane, Dungarvan. This area is focused to help startups in expanding by providing them with the resources and assistance they require. SETU has made DEC one of its four rural enterprise hubs through a programme called TU Rise.
The European Union and the Irish government provide funding for TU Rise. It looks into promoting partnerships between local companies and academic institutions, especially in rural areas. This promotes economic progress and helps bring original concepts and technology to reality. The teamwork will focus on helping business owners in testing and creating agritech advancements that improve agricultural and food production. The future of the region depends on this support because agriculture plays an important role in the local economy.
DEC head Professor Bill O'Gorman noted that a number of elements by including employment creation, public service improvement and climate change adaptation are involved in rural development. By working closely with local organizations, SETU intends to create a strong environment for creativity, said Brian Ogilvie who is the head of entrepreneurship and rural engagement. "The new Dungarvan hub will help businesses grow and adopt new technology," he continued. In addition, SETU recently received more than €240,000 from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. This funding will support studies on environmentally friendly and the system in food sustainable farming practices.
