Festo improves cybersecurity by sharing information on CISA, safeguarding secure automation products to meet international and EU standards by 2027.
The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) website has added product security warnings from Festo, an established international automation solutions. Highlighting the business's commitment to cybersecurity.
Festo began to focus on cybersecurity in 2020 after the development of the Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT), assigned to solve security weaknesses in its products. It decided to increase its efforts in 2023, after the creation of the Central Department of Product Security, led by Florian Fetz. This section is responsible for handling any identified product weaknesses and monitoring the application of security rules and regulations.
Global Product Security Officer of Festo, Tobias Pfeiffer, stated, "Although we use modern technology while developing connected products, it is quite challenging to predict every possible security risk." When a weakness is reported, the PSIRT team becomes the primary point of contact. They analyze the level of risk, develop plans for restoration, and distribute thorough security alerts through Festo's website as well as external groups like CERT@VDE and CISA.
The official US government site for information on hardware and software weaknesses and suggested solutions is CISA. Festo provided CISA full information over the past year concerning the level to which its products are used in North American production, food and beverage, and food processing businesses. This highlighted how crucial Festo's automation technology is to many important systems. It has achieved certification under the established international cybersecurity requirements for industrial automation, IEC 62443-4-1. All of Festo's connected technology will be fully compliant with the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) of the European Union by 2027.
These products will have clear software documentation, promote prompt notification of security occurrences, follow secure programming methods, undergo regular security testing, have easy to use security features, and bear the CE mark to demonstrate compliance. Festo aims to help businesses secure themselves as advances in technology occur by offering automation solutions that are secure, reliable, and easy to operate.
