US-built minivan blends Chinese design with AI tech and premium luxury features.
America's electric vehicle maker, Faraday Future launches its new car, the FX Super One, a luxury minivan constructed with a semi-knockdown kit of Chinese automaker GWM (Great Wall Motors). While positioned as an American-made car, the FX Super One is a revamped model of the Wey Gaoshan 9, made in California with components produced in China.
This is Faraday Future's second car since the FF 91 electric SUV, which was launched in 2023. The FX Super One is unique with its enormous "AI F.A.C.E." virtual grille, a display that shows animations such as emojis, virtual faces, and personalized images. Faraday Future is emphasizing the minivan's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities by referring to AI more than 50 times in its press release. Both the all-electric and plug-in hybrid models will have all-wheel drive as a standard feature.
Intended to provide tech luxury at a lower price tag, the FX Super One will come with an exclusive four-seat VIP "GOAT" variant. It will boast zero-gravity seating, a panoramic screen, Dolby Atmos sound, and a dual-zone refrigerator, targeting elite passengers or red carpet events. The FX Super One will also be available in six- and seven-seat forms for families or executive transport. While the price is not yet announced, the company states it will be available in high-end features without the $300,000 price tag.
Faraday Future's semi-knockdown (SKD) process helps to bypass hefty tariffs for cars imported from overseas. Meanwhile, GWM is investigating importing Wey luxury models to Australia, potentially expanding its Haval, Ora, Tank, and Cannon offerings. With bold styling and smart technology, the FX Super One aims to battle cars like the Cadillac Escalade in the luxury minivan segment.
