Affordable electric motorcycles under Rs 1 lakh, developing India’s 100cc commuter segment.
Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup Oben Electric is about to transform the entry-level commuter motorcycle segment with its newly launched O100 platform. Aiming at the mass-market 100cc segment that accounts for almost 30% of India's two-wheeler sales, the O100 platform promises an electric counterpart for top-selling petrol motorcycles like the Hero Splendor, Honda Shine 100, and Bajaj Platina 100.
Designed from scratch in-house, the modular O100 platform is designed to accommodate an array of electric motorcycles for daily commutes. All the models on this platform will be priced below Rs 1 lakh, which will make them extremely competitive with conventional petrol bikes. Over 25 patents have been filed by Oben on the technologies incorporated into the O100, which demonstrates its focus on innovation and affordability.
The first bike to be launched on this new platform will happen in the second half of 2025. The company's vision is to offer sustainable, affordable mobility options that are both performance-oriented and pragmatic for the Indian commuter.
Oben Electric currently has two electric bikes—the Rorr and the Rorr EZ—both using the firm's first-generation ARX platform. The Oben Rorr, which costs Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom), has a 4.4 kWh battery, a range of 187 km, and a top speed of 100 km/h. It also features a driver alert system, geo-fencing, and fast charging.
The Rorr EZ, which is cheaper, begins at Rs 89,999 (ex-showroom) for the 2.6 kWh model. Higher capacity models with 3.4 kWh and 4.4 kWh batteries are available; they cost Rs 1.09 lakh and Rs 1.19 lakh, respectively.
Oben Electric's O100 sets a new standard for Indian commuter motorcycles by aiming for mainstream, reasonably priced EV mobility.
