Sundar Pichai Sells $5.15 Million in Alphabet Stock

Sundar Pichai sells $5.15 million in Alphabet stock during market downturn, yet analysts stay optimistic.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google parent company Alphabet Inc., sold about $5.15 million worth of company stock recently, as reported in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on April 2, 2025. The offering was of Class C Capital Stock for between $157.23 and $159.97 per share. The move is as Alphabet shares are trading near its 52-week low of $147.22, down roughly 20% year-to-date in 2025, as pressures at the wider technology sector.

The sales of stock were made pursuant to a pre-adopted Rule 10b5-1 Trading Plan, which was adopted by Pichai in December 2024. The plan allows corporate insiders to sell shares on predetermined dates, making insider trading compliance easier. Following the transactions, Pichai directly retains 2.7 million Alphabet shares, together with holdings in Class A Common Stock and Class C Google Stock Units.

According to Alphabet's regulatory filings, Pichai, in addition to the Pichai Family Foundation, also adopted a trading plan to dispose of 876,000 Class C shares within the next year. This repeated plan is valid up to April 2026 and is viewed as a strategic decision in the midst of the unstable market condition.

Even though Alphabet's shares lagged in 2025, there are still positive expectations from analysts for the company's future. InvestingPro's latest review puts Alphabet on a "GREAT" financial health score, with the company being well-placed in the tech industry. Wall Street analysts see Google's stock as having upside potential with target prices of $167 to $240 per share based on its leadership in search, cloud computing, and AI innovations.
