New structure reduces bureaucracy, empowers engineers, and boosts AI and tech focus.
Intel's new chief executive, Lip-Bu Tan has instituted major changes in leadership within the company as he tries to shake up the tech giant into something more agile and innovative. In the course of restructuring, getting rid of redundant levels in the firm and creating a faster, more agile work style is being nurtured.
In an e-mail to employees within the company, Tan revealed that he is seeking to have Intel be less bureaucratic and more of an engineering company. "It's become apparent that we need to shift our culture and business practice," he stated. Tan says that empowering more engineers with decision-making authority will enable the company to remain a leader in the aggressive tech industry.
As a result of the restructuring, some of Intel's top-performing business groups—like data center, PC, and AI organizations—will have direct reportage to the CEO. The idea is to have it generate more communication and expedite decision-making.
One of the most senior appointments is Sachin Katti becoming the company's new Chief Technology and AI Officer. Greg Lavender, who is leaving Intel, is being replaced by him. Katti is a familiar figure in the tech world and has been overseeing Intel's push in AI, arguably one of the most important future growth opportunities for the company.
Lip-Bu Tan became a member of Intel's board in 2022 and became CEO in early 2024. He is from the chip industry and has headed other successful tech companies in the past. His term is counted to be a new beginning for Intel, which struggled fiercely with intense competition over the last few years.
This shake-up is a reflection of Tan's determination to shake up the way Intel conducts business and increase its offerings in fields such as artificial intelligence and data processing. The firm is counting on this militant push to yield greater innovation and long-term success.
