Scania’s new plant in Aeroton enhances production and efficiency and supports South Africa’s growth.
In Aeroton, south of Johannesburg, the automaker Scania Southern Africa has built a new assembly plant that will produce between 3,200 and 3,600 units annually. Increased capacity and efficiency will enable this new facility to satisfy the expanding demands of the transportation and logistics sectors for Scania sustainable transport.
The Managing Director of Scania Southern Africa, Erik Bergvall, stated that the launch of the new "state-of-the-art" Scania assembly plant marks an important milestone in the company’s history and reflects its long-term commitment to the automotive and logistics industry in South Africa.
The new assembly plant's launch, according to Erik Bergvall, Managing Director of Scania Southern Africa, is an indication of Scania's faith in South Africa's potential and its dedication to supporting job creation, economic expansion, and sustainable development. He added that by providing high-quality, locally produced products, the plant will allow Scania to better serve its customers by ensuring faster deliveries and better support.
The objective was to establish a new assembly footprint in order to maintain effectiveness and provide the South African market with the high-quality goods that consumers need, according to Christian Håkansson, RPC Manager of Scania South Africa. He added that maintaining proficiency was one of the plant's other important goals, which it has accomplished by remaining in the same location. This has allowed them to maintain valuable assets and skills, with many employees who contributed to this project continuing their work at the new assembly plant.
He gave importance to the new assembly plant that has significantly improved flows, logistics, and the assembly setup. He identified confidence in the company's ability to meet future challenges and achieve their goals. Håkansson also extended a heartfelt thank you to all Scania employees for their dedication, allowing the enormous hard work over the past 15 months. He revealed the joy and energy felt by the team when they returned from vacation and entered the new facility.
