Imagination's DXT-48-1536 GPU promises significant graphical advancements in Google’s upcoming devices.
Google plans to integrate Imagination Technologies' next-generation GPU in the Tensor G5 SoC, which will drive the eagerly awaited Pixel 10 series. The Tensor G5, as per recent leaks, will include the DXT-48-1536 GPU, a powerful chip for high-end devices. The GPU will offer stunning graphical fidelity, including scalable ray tracing, RISC-V firmware, and dual-rate 2D texturing.
The DXT-48-1536 GPU comes with a ray acceleration cluster (RAC), which provides more efficient ray tracing. Based on these specifications, the GPU is bound to produce smoother and more detailed graphics without any impact on battery life. The chip's Scalable Processing Unit (SPU) is also expected to enhance high-end compute and texture processing by as much as 50% compared to its current counterpart. This advance in graphics technology will certainly enhance the gaming and multimedia experience of users of the Pixel 10 series.
Imagination Technologies is focusing on its advancements such as Fragment Shading Rate (FSR), which increases graphics processing performance by lowering the number of fragments handled in ray tracing. This preserves visual quality while increasing efficiency. These tech improvements are thought to give the Pixel 10 a considerable advantage in graphical capability over earlier Pixel phones.
Aside from the GPU, the Tensor G5 SoC is said to include upgrades in other aspects, such as the always-on compute processor, the Google Emerald Hill memory coprocessor, and the Google EdgeTPU, all manufactured using TSMC's improved 3nm process. This is said to provide improved overall performance and efficiency compared to the Tensor G4, which is used in the present Pixel 9 series.
With these technologies, the Tensor G5 SoC should push Google's Pixel 10 lineup to a new generation of smartphone performance.
