Gemini AI in Google Sheets simplifies data analysis and chart creation, saving time with automated insights.

Google has enhanced new functionalities for its Gemini AI in Google Sheets, providing users with the ability to analyze data easily and to produce static charts, available straight in their spreadsheets. Gemini was announced via the Workspace blog; the new functionality allows the AI to respond in answers on the trends of data by generating insights and creating visual representations without requiring users to write the code or craft the charts.

This new feature harnesses Python code to analyze your data, providing deeper insights into your dataset. For more straightforward queries, Gemini can still use typical spreadsheet formulas. It’s designed to save users time, particularly those who would normally struggle with complex data analysis and visualization tasks. With just a few prompts, Gemini can automate the creation of visualizations, removing the hassle of manually building them. This feature is now gradually rolling out to the majority of Workspace plans, with the $19.99-per-month Google One AI Premium plan included.

It's also important to note a few limitations. The charts created by Gemini are static images, meaning that any changes to your data will require a new visualization. This may not be ideal for users with frequently updated datasets, who may still prefer traditional charting methods that automatically adjust with data changes. Additionally, Gemini’s accuracy can be influenced by inconsistent data formatting, missing values, or unclear requests, meaning users should ensure their data is properly structured for the best results.

It will be completely rolled out by February 20th, among the latest changes Google has introduced in its Workspace plans that have more AI-based applications for business clients. All this comes with the platform seeing an increase in prices, so some are left to wonder whether this new application provides enough value for the increase in price.
