Poland strengthens its position as a semiconductor hub with MEP Solutions' new Gdańsk factory investment.
Poland's position as an important player in advanced technology investments is growing, with the semiconductor sector at the center. In a significant move, MEP Solutions, a company that specializes in providing infrastructure for semiconductor factories, has chosen Gdańsk as the site for its new factory. This highlights Poland's strategic location and economic policies that attract high-tech investments.
The new factory, scheduled for opening in 2025, will create a few hundred direct jobs and strengthen the global network of MEP Solutions' production operations. Its distance to the biggest seaports in Central Europe, such as the Baltic Hub, guarantees seamless access to all international markets - making the investment even more strategic.
Gdańsk, with Gdynia and Sopot, is very quickly becoming the country's next major technological center, attracting investment in semiconductors and IT. SK hynix and Intel already have their research and development centers there, specializing in the design and testing of integrated circuits. The infrastructure developing in the area, including the seaports and roads, makes the Tri-City an increasingly attractive location for global-scale production.
Among the advantages of Poland being a hub of semiconductor investments lies its closeness to big markets like Germany, France, and the UK; a highly skilled engineering workforce and relatively competitive labor. Kearney published a recent ranking that ranks Poland as the most attractive European country for back-end semiconductor manufacturing, further consolidating this position in global supply chains.
The Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH), local institutions in this case, were a key agent of this investment; they rendered institutional support combined with preferential conditions, also in the area of tax relief. Poland is expected to become an industrial leader among Europe's major players in semiconductors.
