Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata passes away, leaving behind a legacy that transforms India's business landscape and strengthens its global presence.
Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, died on October 10, 2024, at the age of 86 while undergoing treatment for age-related health issues at a hospital in the port city of Mumbai. Tata, who had remained silent about his serious health complications, had barely five days ago been assuring the public that his evaluation was routine.
During Tata's leadership, the Tata Group has evolved into a global industrial giant. This was done through acquisitions as it bought Jaguar Land Rover and Corus. He provided the leadership vision that outgrew the boundaries of India, forming an indispensable contribution in the rise of Indian economy and shapening its international profile.
Tata's tenure at Tata Sons started in 1991. During this time, he led the group through a number of innovations and expansions that eventually culminated into a market valuation of more than $100 billion. He retired in 2012 but remained a strong catalyst in business and philanthropy, contributing in, among others, the World Economic Forum strategy for sustainable development and corporate accountability.
Tributes began pouring in from different leaders and business personalities who reflected on the massive contributions of Tata towards trade and industry. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condoled and noted that Tata would have a significant impact on the Indian economy. Anand Mahindra emphasized Tata's legacy in guiding future business leaders.
Ratan Tata's passing marked a significant moment in the industrial history of India and shall leave a long-lasting legacy for generations to come.
