Emirates Strengthens Vietnam Ties with New MoUs and Travel Options

Emirates boosts Vietnam ties with new MoUs, enhancing travel options and economic collaboration

Emirates has agreed on two Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with Vietnam Airlines and VietJet to enhance connectivity and travel opportunities between Dubai and the two major Vietnamese cities, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The deals were announced at the UAE Business Forum held at the Hilton Dubai Palm Jumeirah on October 28, 2024.

In a statement, Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, underscored the significance of these agreements. "Improving our partnerships with similar operators, such as Vietnam Airlines and VietJet, is a corner stone of our core commercial plan for the company in bridging gaps in customers between these airports and points in our own network," he said. Kazim stated that the country presented enormous tourism and trade development opportunities to both sides and would go towards further strengthening already-very-positive economic engagement efforts by the UAE government.

The two sides agreed on the same day to a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) which is the first free-trade agreement Vietnam has inked with a Middle East nation, aimed at strengthening trade and investment. According to the UAE Ministry of Economy, the bilateral trade between the two countries has jumped by 43% in the first half of this year to $3.2 billion.

The MoU with Vietnam Airlines is aimed at further expansion of cooperation already in place, with the increase of connectivity on routes beyond current interline agreements and opportunities in cargo and technical services spheres. Cooperation will ensure that passengers have 22 domestic and 15 regional destinations in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the partnership with VietJet allows an emphasis on enhancing connectivity on its domestic network to which it may access from Dubai a multitude of Emirates international destinations. The Emirates presently operates one daily service into Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and will launch another second daily service into Ho Chi Minh City, commencing January 15, 2025, before the Lunar New Year festival.
