The phones that enabled the medalists to carry a piece of the Games onto the podium have become a hot product on the resale landscape
Olympic athletes are flipping out over the special-edition Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 phones, with prices soaring to $10,000 on eBay. Samsung created these exclusive devices to commemorate the Paris 2024 Games, featuring a gold finish adorned with Olympic rings and encased in luxurious leather. This limited-edition phone was gifted to approximately 17,000 athletes as part of Samsung’s unique sponsorship deal, marking the first time such product placement has been featured in the modern Olympic Games.
The phones that enabled the medalists to carry a piece of the Games onto the podium have become a hot product on the resale landscape. Listings on eBay report that the average asking price for these sought-after gadgets is around £1,600, but some sellers are stretching the envelope with enormous prices of up to $10,000. At the time of writing, one listing priced at $10,000 had gathered 1,344 views, while another was listed at $6,999.
Social media buzz has significantly fueled demand. According to Olytico Social Media Monitoring, athletes have shared thousands of selfies and videos featuring the phones, collectively amassing over 20 million views on TikTok. Olytico founder Stephen O’Leary noted that the most-watched video, by boxer Tina Rahimi, has reached a staggering 5.8 million views. The intersection of sports and technology continues to captivate both fans and collectors alike.
