The goal of Okuma's ORL line of rotary and drawer cell robots is to increase CNC machine operators' productivity and efficiency.
The Okuma Robot Leader (ORL) series is a new range of automation solutions from Okuma America Corp. that are intended to increase CNC machining productivity and efficiency. The ORL-D drawer-style unit, which can hold up to 92 workpieces and an additional 180 smaller pieces, the ORL-R rotary disc-style unit, which can hold up to 166 workpieces, and the ORL-MC machining center storage unit, which can hold up to 288 workpieces thanks to its patented MultiGrip workholding system, are the three different robots in this series.
The ORL robots are made of FANUC industrial robot arms and grippers, and they are made to be small-footprint machines that can handle payloads up to 25 pounds (11.3 kilograms) on 8 to 9 square feet (0.7 to 0.8 square meters) of floor space. The simple integration of these robots with Okuma's current CNC machines and automation systems improves machine shop operational efficiency.
The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago in 2024 will feature the new ORL series. Demonstrations will feature the ORL-R paired with the MULTUS B300II multitasking machine and the ORL-MC with the GENOS M560V0-5AX five-axis vertical machining center. These innovations aim to streamline parts handling and automate complex machining processes, furthering Okuma's commitment to advancing manufacturing automation.
