The mission is set to drive advancements in clean technologies, positioning India as a global leader in sustainable energy solutions
India and the United States are deepening their collaboration on green hydrogen and space exploration, marking significant strides in clean energy and scientific innovation. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, emphasized the Green Hydrogen Mission's critical role in India's efforts to decarbonize power production, transportation, and heavy industries. The mission is set to drive advancements in clean technologies, positioning India as a global leader in sustainable energy solutions.
In a notable development, Dr. Singh announced that an astronaut from India’s Gaganyaan Mission will join the International Space Station (ISS), signifying a milestone in Indo-US space cooperation. This move highlights the growing synergy between the two nations in advancing space exploration. The Indian government is also focusing on expanding international collaborations, investing in research, and establishing regulatory frameworks for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which are crucial for energy self-reliance and climate goals. Dr. Singh reiterated the nation's commitment to the “Panchamrit” climate action plan, which targets 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity, a 1 billion-tonne reduction in carbon emissions, and net-zero emissions by 2070.
Dr. AK Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor, emphasized that the Indo-US partnership extends beyond knowledge exchange to include joint solutions for future challenges. Further, advancements in ocean energy, Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) technologies, and innovations in data analytics, AI, and machine learning were highlighted by various experts, reflecting India’s strategic push towards sustainable and technological advancement.
