A three-month residency offering emerging animators access to a mentor, finance, and exposure in global markets.
ACMI in Australia has announced it will be entering a new partnership with Ludo Studio, the award-winning production company behind hits such as Bluey, Robbie Hood, and The Strange Chores. ACMI and Ludo Studio announce the ACMI X + Ludo Studio Residency, an initiative that will support emerging animators of any level in Australia with a $10,000 project fund and priceless industry exposure.
The three-month residency will provide up to two professional credits and mentoring from Ludo Studio animators, who have gained international acclaim for their work, including Bluey, which became the second most-streamed show in the US in 2023. The residency will also provide a fully subsidized workspace at ACMI X, Melbourne's hub for creative practitioners and businesses in film, television, and screen-based art.
This residency is about cultivating the next big hit in global animation, nurturing an emerging animator or team of animators as they work up a project ready for the Australian and international marketplace. As part of the program, the winner will get the opportunity to have their work presented at an ACMI X Screen Industry Works-in-Progress night and to take part in the one-day Animation Symposium presented in partnership with Ludo Studio.
ACMI Director & CEO Seb Chan said: "We have always wanted to work with Ludo Studio. This really is an ideal opportunity to foster local talent while inspiring the next great global animation hits." Producer at Ludo Studio Sam Moor added, "The residency potential and the program as such provide a genuine real-world opportunity for Australia's next generation of animators."
This partnership is a significant step in supporting Australia's growing animation industry and fostering talent ready to make an impact on the global stage.
