Amazon says it recovered $600 million in Trump tariff refunds during the second quarter and will return a portion of the funds to eligible customers while continuing to invest in lower prices.

Amazon has announced that it recovered approximately $600 million in tariff refunds in the second quarter of the Trump tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The firm noted it would return some of the Amazon tariff refund to qualified customers, while using the funds to improve its low-price strategy.
CFO Brian Olsavsky confirmed that Amazon was one of the firms that received a federal tariff refund after the court declared that most import duties imposed under the 1977 Emergency Powers Act were not legal. This development comes at a time when Trump tariff refund updates keep reshaping the financial planning of US firms, particularly retailers and tech firms. In addition to Amazon, other firms such as Apple, Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, and General Motors have secured their tariff refunds.
Olsavsky, the amount of the refund Amazon received was modest, as the company proactively realigned its inventories even before tariffs were implemented and, in most cases in marketplaces, it is not the formal importer of record. More than 60 percent of items sold on Amazon are sold by third parties who import the goods independently and have also sought refunds.
The company has stated that it has determined which were charged to customers. In such cases, the company will contact the affected consumers and automatically issue a claim. The money will go into maintaining low prices on its retail platform.
The news comes in the wake of intense investigations into how Amazon has been dealing with tariffs. Recently, some consumers have filed lawsuits against Amazon for refunds even as tariffs were being increased.
Amazon's refund announcement was accompanied by strong quarterly results, causing its stock price to rise as the company had beaten Wall Street estimates. Business Honor believes returning tariff refunds strengthens customer trust while reinforcing Amazon's commitment to pricing transparency and long-term retail competitiveness.
