DAMENG Unveils Advanced Database Management Systems in Hong Kong Launch

Chinese technology firm launches next-generation database management systems, targeting global expansion through Hong Kong strategic hub deployment initiative.

  •    DM9 database delivers 100-350% performance improvements across single and distributed architectures

  •    New PAI appliance reduces I/O latency by 80%, achieving 12 million IOPS storage capacity

  •    Hong Kong serves as key hub for DAMENG's expansion into global markets and ecosystems

  •    Multiple government departments adopt DAMENG solutions after successful migration implementations

  •   Company announces AI-era roadmap including in-database inference and heterogeneous computing acceleration

On May 15 in Hong Kong, Chinese database management systems developer DAMENG launched two flagship technologies that will help them build an international presence: the DAMENG Database Management System 9 (DM9) and the next generation DAMENG PAI converged database appliance. This launch demonstrates DAMENG’s commitment to establishing its homeland-developed database solutions at par with international solutions and using Hong Kong as a bridge between innovation generated in China and worldwide adoption.

Both of these products exhibit advancements in performance from prior versions, including the fact that the DM9 features a completely new kernel with benchmark improvements over previous versions demonstrating 100% improvements on single-node TPC-C and 350% improvements on distributed configurations. In addition, the DM9 has increased over 450 new features across several major enhancements such as performance optimization, high availability, security, and multi-modal data support.

The DAMENG PAI has achieved major architectural advances through four major innovations converged into one appliance. For example, this appliance provides extreme performance with its storage performance starting at 12 million input/output operations per second (IOPS) and linear scaling across nodes. Furthermore, the tiered storage architecture reduces end-to-end latency by 50 percent and has built-in capabilities for GPU and vector retrieval that will increase the performance of retrieving vector data by ten times.

Through a proprietary in-storage computing solution, the ability to perform large-scale table scans can be accelerated by 50x and have the ability to reduce single input/output latency from 400 microseconds to 80 microseconds for the full RDMA implementation.

The senior officials at this event stressed the major strategic role of Hong Kong on DAMENG’s globalization initiatives. According to Zhang Yongqiang, Senior Deputy General Manager for DAMENG, Hong Kong has a unique position as a critical hub for connecting the mainland with the rest of the world, making it a vital location for the company’s overseas expansion efforts. Simon Wong, CEO of the Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre, emphasized that all industries in Hong Kong will require solutions that have been verified, secured and are resilient to support: Smart City; Port; and cross-border trade solutions; all of which require technological expertise from DAMENG as foundational to their deployment.

Real-world experience with deploying solutions provided a primary basis for the presentation. Officials from ICO Group and Nexify Limited detailed many successful case studies of migrating databases from current solutions to DAMENG solutions for departments of the Government of Hong Kong. In one instance, during a major system upgrade, DAMENG DRS provided real-time data synchronization with 98% data compatibility; completed this migration (2) in under two weeks, while meeting all requirements for both security and auditing. All departments of the Government of Hong Kong are now using DAMENG solutions as a result of extensive proof-of-concept testing.

DAMENG has established a bold plan for artificial intelligence (AI) development that is intended to go beyond simply database management software. The company intends to improve its core technologies by incorporating heterogeneous computing speed-up, in-database inference, small domain-specific models and AI-native database kernels. This will enable DAMENG to be a supplier for the growing market of data-intensive applications on a wide range of platforms.

The launch in Hong Kong is part of a larger goal of demonstrating DAMENG's ability to execute technology successfully and operate reliably in an international setting. Officials have stated that database deployment is essential to the reliability, security and regulatory compliance of systems; therefore, the associated risks of migrating databases include possible data loss, reduced service availability and standard violations. By highlighting its success within one of Asia's most technologically advanced environments, DAMENG will promote global usage of Chinese foundational software and contribute to the global effort for data security and intelligent development.

Business Honor views that DAMENG's Hong Kong product launch represents a strategic pivot toward global market penetration and enterprise adoption capabilities.
