Cloud Company Akamai Expands AI and Cloud Infrastructure in Asia
Cloud company Akamai reports that it has recorded a significant accomplishment in its Asia revenue, which has passed the $1 billion mark in the year 2025, owing to growing global interest in applications of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. This is according to Akamai Technologies, which has stated that Asia remains its fastest-growing market, owing to the adoption of AI-based cloud computing technologies.
According to Sean Li, senior vice president and managing director for Asia-Pacific and Japan, the accomplishment represents an important milestone in its growth strategy. Li further said that Akamai would make increased investment in AI infrastructure in Asia, such as the purchase of advanced semiconductor chips and its collaboration with NVIDIA.
The cloud company has been aggressively expanding its cloud computing business due to increased demand for AI-based enterprise operations. It is worth noting that the cloud business of Akamai has become the fastest growing source of revenues.
Cloud Company Strengthens Cybersecurity and AI Capabilities
Recently, the cloud company made headlines when it announced a deal worth $1.8 billion in partnership with an AI firm, which was described as a "leading frontier model provider." Akamai did not name the AI company that it partnered with, but its decision helped raise investor confidence levels and ensure good stock performance throughout the year.
Another significant decision made by the cloud company was to acquire LayerX at a price of $205 million. This acquisition will boost the company's ability to enhance browser-based AI security features and help enterprises mitigate risks related to the use of AI technologies.
As per Li, the cloud company is now negotiating with several AI companies in the region of Asia as more and more companies adopt AI technologies and cloud infrastructure. The contribution of Asia to Akamai's revenue was close to 25% last year, and overall revenue growth for the year was 5% compared to 2024.
