However, according to Lenovo's Work Reborn Report, which involved 6,000 employees from around the globe, organizations have been struggling to manage such changes effectively.
According to the findings, over 70% of employees use AI weekly and approximately one-third of respondents use AI applications without approval from their information technology department. The increasing trend of "shadow AI" has led to an adoption-governance imbalance, posing various challenges to enterprises.

HR applications of AI are central to the current HR technology trends, particularly in workforce management, hiring, and employee productivity. Companies are incorporating AI solutions to enhance efficiency and gain insight into employee performance data.
Additionally, the dependency rate on AI among employees is increasing steadily, with eight out of ten respondents expecting further usage of AI in the next year. Nonetheless, governance mechanisms have not progressed at the same pace, resulting in an "AI execution gap."
Shadow AI and Growing Threats
Shadow AI involves employees utilizing unauthorized AI software without organizational supervision. This issue is resulting in redundant software expenses, disjointed workflows, and decreased oversight of AI utilization.
Growing cybersecurity threats are another concern. Nearly 61% of IT professionals claim to witness growing cyber threats connected with AI technology, while merely 31% feel comfortable addressing these concerns. Additionally, 43% of employees fear data exposure and cyber attacks.
AI Utilization Disparity in the Workplace
There is a definite discrepancy between the use of authorized AI software and unapproved external software by employees. This creates inefficiencies, hinders collaboration, and affects the ROI from the adoption of AI technology.
