Microsoft Surface Pro Gets OLED Display Upgrade and Dual-Chip Strategy for 2026

Microsoft prepares Surface Pro with Intel and Snapdragon chips featuring OLED displays in two-stage launch this spring and summer.

Microsoft is working towards bringing out substantial updates to the Surface Pro series through a two-phased launch involving the Intel Core Ultra 3 series and the Snapdragon X2 series. This launch marks a paradigm shift in Microsoft Surface products through improved displays and performance capabilities.

The Surface Pro series comes with OLED screen improvements that apply only to the high-tier versions but not the low-tier versions, which will have IPS displays. The storage capacity ranges from 256 GB to 2 TB, with RAM capacity available up to 64 GB. There is an upgrade in haptics, in line with Windows 11's advanced haptics technology for window snapping and file organization capabilities. Intel-powered devices come with Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 processors, while Snapdragon-powered devices come with Snapdragon X2 Plus and Snapdragon X2 Elite CPUs but lack the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme version.

This is a significant shift from what happened in 2024, where Microsoft unveiled Snapdragon variants before the Intel versions were available. The current chip shortage forces Microsoft to prioritize Intel releases initially. Microsoft Surface Pro retains its exterior design but with small modifications and new color choices. The key advantage in using OLED screens makes the product unique in the high-end market space, despite having an expensive price point, because of the recent increase in Microsoft prices.

Business Honor notes that the next generation of Microsoft Surface Pro focuses on enhancing users' experience and improving their performance instead of making a complete overhaul of the product. OLED screens have become the main selling point due to their accuracy and contrast capabilities.
