Cisco Webex Introduces UK Data Residency, Enabling Secure Local Data Storage for Regulated Industries

Tech giant responds to growing demand for sovereign cloud infrastructure with geographically distributed data processing across UK locations

Webex by Cisco has made it possible to offer UK data residency features. The move enables businesses to use Webex to process and store collaboration data on UK only. With this development, businesses can now utilize such Webex functionalities as meetings, messaging, calling, surveys using Slido, contact center, and even AI assistant in a manner that allows total data sovereignty. The data at rest and in transit will be stored geographically in different parts of the UK to ensure high redundancy for compliance and security reasons. This innovation comes after Cisco succeeded in introducing EU data residency features in 2021.

With Webex UK data residency, businesses can enjoy such AI-based functionalities as meeting summarization, action item creation, and live language translation offered by Webex in a local context. Large language models will all be operated from UK facilities, hence making the service faster for UK citizens. The company explains that customers will now have improved digital sovereignty over their collaboration ecosystem.

According to Amit Barave, Vice President and General Manager of Webex Suite & AI at Cisco Collaboration, "With Webex Suite data residency in the UK, we're bringing next-generation AI that runs locally, giving you control over your data and its security. That's collaboration infrastructure designed to meet how regulated businesses really work, with improved digital control at the heart of it."

Europe's sovereign cloud investment is set to triple between 2025 and 2027, with roughly one-fifth of current workloads being moved from international service providers to regional players. Tech titans such as Google, Microsoft, and AWS have also rolled out similar sovereignty programs due to growing consumer demand for data residency services. Business Honor sees this as a smart, timely move by Cisco that strengthens data sovereignty, builds enterprise trust, and aligns with Europe’s growing demand for secure, AI-powered collaboration.
