Uttar Pradesh Empowers MSMEs with Walmart Vriddhi Global E-Commerce Strategy

State-Led Initiative Transforms Small Businesses Through Digital Skills and Market Access.

To create competitive global entities, Uttar Pradesh's government has executed a historic agreement with the Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development Programme to support more than 4 million micro, small and medium enterprises of Uttar Pradesh by providing them with a framework to succeed in the international marketplace. This agreement is part of a larger initiative to transform the exports ecosystem and prepare MSMEs digitally through three years of MOUs that will provide MSMEs with extensive support and a structured capacity-building program to help them overcome major obstacles to exporting. Through this collaboration, entrepreneurs will be able to take advantage of free training and mentoring opportunities by being digitally enabled e-commerce ready, and learning about packaging, quality standards and how to develop market access strategies.

As stated by Alok Kumar, Infrastructure and Industrial Development, the MMSEs of Uttar Pradesh will gain new avenues of opportunity through this partnership, enabling them and helping Uttar Pradesh to emerge as a preeminent export hub and e-commerce hub in India. The Export Promotion Policy 2025 - 30 will establish innovative incentives for MSMEs and first-time exporters, which is why the programme has been established for exporters who use e-commerce platforms. An example of this is the programme will provide 75% of the e-commerce platform's listing fees up to ₹3,00,000, thereby lowering the costs associated with e-commerce entry into the international market.

Mukesh Singh from Indo American Chamber of Commerce has pointed out that there is urgency in developing these partnerships. "The major challenges to small businesses are access to global buyers, meeting international standards, and having digital capabilities," said Singh. The Walmart Vriddhi program seeks to help fill these needs and accelerate export growth. The program provides support for several strategic priorities including enhancing the global competitiveness of small businesses; increasing participation and engagement by small businesses in domestic and international commerce; and creating jobs through improved market integration.
