Infrastructure Expert from Stripe Joins AI Startup to Lead Technical Strategy and Scaling.
Rahul's appointment signals a major shift for Anthropic as they continue to expand their operations and improve their overall technical infrastructure. Previously the CTO of Stripe, where Rahul supported the technical organization of millions of businesses with an aggregate transaction volume exceeding $1 trillion annually, he has demonstrated expertise in developing and operating mission-critical systems at scale. His previous roles include senior engineering leadership positions at AWS, Microsoft, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, where he has developed specialized expertise in creating highly reliable, scalable systems capable of supporting global businesses.
Patil, who graduated from PESIT Bengaluru with a degree in Computer Science and an MBA from the University of Washington, is enthusiastic about his work with Anthropic, saying, "I am thrilled about my time at Anthropic." He continued, "I joined 5 months ago after I recognized that AI was going to rapidly change a lot of things over the next 100 years and that AI was one of the fastest-changing technologies in existence. Anthropic aligned with my value system the closest, with their ambition to develop AI responsibly."
This hire comes during a pivotal time for Anthropic, as it has emerged as one of the top companies competing for AI technologies. Founded in 2021 by seven former OpenAI executives (including CEO Dario Amodei), Anthropic has built a family of Large Language Models (LLMs) called Claude. The significance of this leadership adds is bolstered through the extensive financial resources allocated from Google's partnership with Anthropic.
Google has contributed in excess of $3 billion to the start-up ($750 million for 2025; $2 billion in 2023), giving them an approximate 14% stake in Anthropic. The partnership will also include Anthropic's use of Google Cloud computing resources when developing their model for training AI models.
