Citrix Transforms Virtualization Landscape with Presentation Server 4.5, Delivering Faster Performance and Comprehensive Enterprise Solutions.
On March 1, Citrix will launch Presentation Server 4.5, representing a major upgrade to its Virtual Applications Delivery Platform. Version 4.5 includes many new features and enhancements acquired through merger and acquisition, and several internally developed features. Version 4.5 offers better performance and enhanced functionality. Presentation Server 4.5 includes SpeedScreen Progressive Display, which is focused on improving graphic rendering performance for applications that are heavy on graphics, such as Microsoft Visio. James Candelaria, VP of Engineering with Citrix Reseller TheAdmins, says the performance improvements from SpeedScreen Progressive Display will be particularly appealing to those customers who are struggling with the performance of their current Presentation Servers.
When Citrix announces its new product launch, it plans to restructure completely and will discontinue its current Access Suite and Standard Edition. Instead, all features will be combined into a single product called "Platinum Edition." Users who purchased a Standard Edition and have a current maintenance subscription will receive an upgrade to the Advanced Edition at no additional cost, while those who purchased the Access Suite will have access to the new Platinum Edition. According to Citrix's Vice President of Product Marketing, David Roussain, this change was made based on feedback from partners.
With the incorporation of EdgeSight monitoring technology, added to by Citrix's recent acquisition of Reflectent Software, this enhancement also provides a greater benefit to customers because as Candelaria pointed out, this integration would greatly assist large deployment scenarios. Customers will be able to purchase the product starting March 1 with a price increase occurring May 15, giving them a period of opportunity to upgrade their product without having to pay for an increase in price. Citrix is confident about their enhancement, with Roussain stating that resellers are excited about the possibility of an increase in margin due to the additional capabilities they have gained through this upgrade.
