Lexus recalls select models in India to update their Parking Assist Software, ensuring safety and smooth system operation.
Lexus has initiated the recall to update safety and security measures against the possible malfunction of the Parking Assist system software of the Panoramic View Monitor that displays rearview images. Lexus has recalled a few of its high-end models in India for the voluntary check of 1,588 vehicles. The particular models include some units in the LM, LX, NX, RX, and LS series. Lexus further pointed out that no such incident or claim has been recorded in India. All the affected vehicles have been built-in with the Panoramic View Monitor, which interacts with the Parking Assist system and smart infrastructure.
"The subject vehicles are equipped with a Parking Assist ECI, which is a component of the panoramic view monitor (PMV) system that displays the rearview image. An error in the software of this ECU may cause. (1) The rearview image to freeze briefly during the backing event if reverse is selected within a specific time after ignition is turned on; or (2) the rearview image not to display on the next ignition on if the ignition is turned on and off within a specific time." the company stated in the press release. This recall is not just about fixing a glitch; it is also about updating how the Parking Assist system works in cabs, so future issues do not cause more trouble. The main problem pops up in models like the Lexus LM, where the Parking Assist ECI gives you a full 360-degree rear view. Lexus is pulling back several models: 258 units of the LM, 136 LXs, 6 LSs, 443 NXs and 745 RXs.
Analysis suggests that this system can be used comfortably in everyday applications. Lexus, however, reports that the system might misbehave on rare occasions by failing to accurately depict the view behind the vehicle. However, Lexus was undertaking a precautionary measure to improve safety in this area. The past has shown that Lexus has been reassuring drivers already with advanced technologies like the Panoramic View Monitor, Parking Assist ECI and ideas like "live" camera-assisted images.
