Young people’s tech use changes social habits; balance needed for mental health.
For young people, social media and modern technologies now play an important role in our lives. Even if it's simple to point out the difficult aspects of online life, such as the constant selfies or odd Facebook obsessions, many of us wouldn't want to give it up. Engadget claims that technology may improve brief periods of concentration and multitasking.
People between the ages of 16 and 24 now spend more than 27 hours a week online, according to Ofcom. Having said that, staying connected is now easier than ever because of the phones, tablets, and computers, and that number is only going to increase. However, this gives rise to one question. Can our health be impacted by this ongoing connection?
It's still too early to tell whether technology is altering the way people build genuine relationships, according to the Mental Health Foundation. Although it keeps people connected, it cannot take the place of genuine human connection, which keeps us from feeling alone. Online communication is easier than in person communication, according to many young people. However, many others feel that technology can make them feel alone. The late night social media use can also delay with sleep and raise the risk of nervousness or despair.
According to other research, young people today favor messaging apps over direct conversations. Some even struggle that people are becoming more self-centered as a result of social media. We cannot deny with the fact that differentiating technology as either good or bad is generalized. The effect also varies because people use it in different ways and for different reasons.
At the end of everything, balance is important. Technology is influencing our thoughts, conversations, and even our lives. In the middle of its many benefits, we need to be aware of the risks also. We can make sure that it helps us more than it hurts us, both as people and as a society, by developing it with awareness.
