Alibaba’s Quark Introduces a New AI Chat Assistant and Smart Glasses

Alibaba’s Quark launched an AI chat assistant and smart glasses that offer voice-based services, actual information, and ecosystem connectivity.

Alibaba's Quark consumer platform introduced the Quark AI Chat Assistant, a new tool that allows customers to access updated information and services through text or voice. This digital assistant combines search and conversation and is powered by Alibaba's most recent Qwen3 models, built into the Quark app. Deep search, editing images, AI writing, and photo-based problem solving are all supported. In addition, the tool uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools from Alibaba's ecosystem to continuously improve its task abilities and performance.

In addition to the assistant, Alibaba announced that the Quark AI Glasses, its first AI-powered eyewear, will be available for sale on Tmall starting Friday, October 24, at midnight, with deliveries starting in December. Bookings for the glasses are also available on Douyin and JD.com. Discounts reduce the pre-sale price of RMB 4,699 (about $659) to RMB 3,699 (roughly $519) for only a few purchasers.

The Qwen big language model and Quark's multimodal AI technology power the Quark AI Glasses, that were first introduced in July at the World AI Conference in Shanghai. Using voice commands, they connect to Alibaba's ecosystem services like Amap navigation, Taobao, Alipay, and Fliggy to allow hands-free calling, music streaming, live translation, and meeting transcription.

With nearly $14 billion spent in the last year and $53.42 billion planned over the next three years, Alibaba has been making major investments in artificial intelligence.
Chairman Joe Tsai said the company aims to bring “AI everywhere, increasing productivity and integrating AI into every consumer and business service.” The introduction of Quark's AI assistant and smart glasses moves Alibaba one step closer to a time where people can use technology as easily and naturally as they imagine.
