Trump discusses migrants, AI, Ukraine war, and UK relations during official state visit.
President of the United States Donald Trump has wrapped up his revolutionary two-day state visit to the United Kingdom. He flew out of Stansted Airport on Air Force One with First Lady Melania Trump at 5:54 p.m., following a busy itinerary of meetings, ceremonies, and political negotiations. Whilst on his visit, Trump had a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers, the official country home of the Prime Minister. During the press conference, Trump made news by calling for the UK government to use the military to respond to the current migrant boat crisis. He also spoke on international matters, saying that Russian President Vladimir Putin had "let him down" by being unable to end the war in Ukraine.
The two leaders also touched on the recent UK government recognition of Palestine as a state, with Trump admitting a "disagreement" on the issue with Prime Minister Starmer. A key highlight of the visit was also the signing of a new Technology Prosperity Deal between the UK and the U.S. Trump indicated that the deal would assist both countries to "dominate" the future of Artificial Intelligence and improve the long-existing relationship between the two allies.
Trump was also received by King Charles at a lavish state banquet hosted at Windsor Castle. The ceremony had a complete view of British military tradition as well as royal pageantry. Trump, in his speech at the ceremony, had referred to the occasion as "one of the highest honours" of his life and had expressed admiration for the close relationship between America and Britain. This second Trump state visit emphasizes ongoing efforts to strengthen and solidify the "unbreakable bond" between the United States and the United Kingdom, including in such prominent areas as defense, technology, and global diplomacy.
