Ricky Gervais' new animated comedy series named Alley Cats is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026, showing the life of wild British cats with social humor.
Alley Cats, a new adult animated comedy series created by Emmy and Ricky Gervais, is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2026. The six 15-minute episodes show the life of wild British cats, their friendship, and the ups and downs of everyday life. Along with creating the series, Gervais and Elliot Dear co-direct it (The Snowman and The Snowdog). Blink Industries, a U.K.-based business, manages animation. Tang Heng, who worked on Kung Fu Panda, is in charge of production design.
Alley Cats intends to offer a clever, humorous, and emotional look at life—from the backstreets of Britain—as Netflix continues to add new animated shows to its schedule. Gervais provides the voice for the main cat character, who is described as "a fat, lazy, rude, angry creature." He also states that the series will be full of heart and humor about society. Many of Gervais' previous After Life collaborators, like Kerry Godliman, David Earl, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan, Tony Way, Andrew Brooke, and Jo Hartley, appear in the voice cast. Tony Way and Natalie Cassidy are also joining the cast. Gervais and Steven Hamilton Shaw (Gnomeo & Juliet) co-executive produced under Derek Productions.
Ten years after The Ricky Gervais Show, Gervais makes his return to animation with this new comedy series. He humorously stated, "I thought animation would be easier than filming." "I was a fool. It requires quite a while, but it is worth.” With claws, charm, and a great attitude, it might just launch an entirely new animated universe if it's accepted by everyone.
