Xiaomi expands beyond smartphones, challenges Tesla and BYD in Europe's EV scene
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi plans to enter the European electric vehicle (EV) market in 2027. It plans to take on major EV players such as Tesla and BYD directly. The company is making its grand entry into the global automobile sector as it expands beyond smartphones and consumer electronics. Xiaomi revealed its first electric vehicle, the SU7, in China earlier this year. It was met with good demand from customers, selling more than 100,000 units within a short period after its launch. Xiaomi is now looking to Europe, where EV demand is still on the rise.
It will take the SU7 or an upgraded version to Europe over the next two years, according to plans. Xiaomi feels its expertise in smart devices, coupled with advanced technology, sets it apart as a leader in the EV market. The vehicle comes equipped with smart connectivity, high-performance capabilities, and a sleek design, which are primary features that European EV consumers seek.
But going into the European market won't be simple. Xiaomi will have stiff competition from veteran brands such as Tesla, BYD, Volkswagen, and so on. It will also have to comply with stringent European regulations on safety and emissions. But Xiaomi is optimistic. The company claims that it wishes to be one of the leading global EV brands in 15 to 20 years. Going into Europe is a significant step toward that long-term vision. As the EV race heats up, Xiaomi’s bold move into Europe could bring more innovation and better choices for customers.
