Ingram Micro went through a ransomware attack, raising concerns about the cyber security of IT distributors and MSPs.
Ingram Micro, an international provider of IT solutions, stated that it went through a major IT disruption caused by a ransomware attack. Business issued an update, claiming that it discovered ransomware on a few of its computer networks and has taken immediate action to reduce its effects.
In response, Ingram Micro alerted authorities, conducted a thorough investigation with cyber security experts, and then shut some systems down. It apologized for the disruption to its customers and suppliers and said that it is working on restoring systems so that processing orders and delivery may continue. According to the report, SafePay ransomware business, that is active this year, is highly responsible for the attack. The group claimed that the attack, that took advantage of the weaknesses in the distributor's systems, was prompted by profits instead of politics.
This attack throws up new cyber security problems across IT sectors. Because they manage huge amounts of financial and client information, suppliers and managed service providers (MSPs) become increasingly targeted. Robin Ody, Principal analyst of Canalys, a part of Omdia has alerted that partners are now the major targets. "A partnership is the focal point of threat as they handle more data regardless of how many services they handle."
Almost half of MSPs experienced more than three attacks, and 69% reported more than one breach in the previous year, according to the latest Cyber Smart poll. Many people stay confident in their current safety measures in despite this. Increasing demand on channel businesses to protect itself and their consumers is also highlighted in CrowdStrike's 2025 Global Threat Report. Even prominent businesses have to be aware against growing cyber threats, as the Ingram Micro's attack makes clear.
