Over 90% of schools adopt hands-on activities, paving way for gamification.
Maharashtra schools are making great progress in offering experiential learning, with over 90% of them incorporating cultural, sporting, and creative activities into their syllabus. According to the 2024 PARAKH report (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), this experiential approach is helping students acquire critical 21st-century skills. The study points out that 99% of schools have cultural activities, 98% have formal sports programs, and 95% have literary activities such as school magazines and reading clubs. Science exhibitions and art events are also well-liked, organized in 89% and 88% of schools respectively. Even school fairs, typically difficult to organize, are being organized by 82% of schools.
This strong push towards holistic schooling conforms to the National Education Policy (NEP), which exhorts schools to foster students' creativity, communication, collaboration, and innovation. This lays the groundwork for adding gamified learning—a process that employs game-like attributes (points, badges, levels, rewards) to drive and motivate students. As schools continue to move toward more activity-based approaches, incorporating gamification into those programs might additionally increase interest, consistent participation, and quantifiable learning results.
Still, challenges remain. Specialists point out that availability is not necessarily the same as influence. Even schools in isolated or underprivileged communities continue to require assistance to reach the standard of those in cities. The next move is to enhance the quality, equity, and frequency of such programs. Maharashtra is laying a solid platform for education that is ready for the future. With increasing use of experiential learning, the state is well equipped to venture into gamification of education, learning being enjoyable and efficient for everyone.
