Siemens and Microsoft partner to strengthen IoT integration in buildings, allowing efficient data use, open standards, and cloud connectivity.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and Microsoft have announced their partnership, aiming to improve building Internet of Things (IoT) unit data access. Making it easy to connect systems and devices in smart buildings through the integration of Siemens' Building X platform with Microsoft Azure IoT Operations, which is supported by Azure Arc.
The solution reduces the work needs for connecting and handling IoT devices by up to 80% by combining these platforms. This allows gathering data and use by businesses from systems like air quality detectors, valves, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). Quick access to important data, like temperature, pressure, and usage of energy, will be beneficial for building operators in businesses involving commercial property, data center operations, and educational institutions.
This partnership is based on open business standards, including OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) and the Web of Things (W3C WoT) created by the World Wide Web Consortium. Businesses can effortlessly avoid being limited to the product range of one manufacturer because of these standards, which guarantee connectivity between many platforms and technologies. Companies can create their own methods of monitoring energy use, improving comfort in the workplace, and better controlling space due to the relationship that allows quicker cloud onboarding of devices and more seamless information exchange.
Susanne Seitz, CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings, stated, "This partnership strengthens our aim to give property managers greater authority and better insights using IoT data." "It's an important move towards smarter and more efficient operations."
“With Siemens, we are helping consumers to develop more open and adaptable IoT solutions,” said Erich Barnstedt, Senior Director at Microsoft. It is expected that the new solution will be available in the latter half of 2025. Building X is a part of Siemens Xcelerator, a platform that provides open and scalable options for enabling the digital transformation of building operations.
