New Magic of Disney Animation attraction celebrates classic films and behind-the-scenes creativity.
Disney's Hollywood Studios will soon have a brand-new animation-focused attraction. The popular Star Wars Launch Bay is closing permanently and will be replaced by The Magic of Disney Animation. This new experience will celebrate Disney’s rich history of animated films and the creative process behind them.
When Hollywood Studios first opened as Disney MGM Studios, it included tours of Disney’s animation studios where guests could see how movies like Mulan and Lilo & Stitch were made. That concept is revived with a contemporary twist in The Magic of Disney Animation. Visitors will get to explore the world of animation and see how beloved characters are brought to life.
Inside the attraction, guests will enjoy interactive entertainment led by familiar Disney characters. The Disney 100 short film once upon a Studio, in which numerous well-known characters meet together, served as the inspiration for the event. There will also be a playground area inspired by Mary Blair, one of Disney’s famous artists known for her colorful and whimsical designs.
Through interactive exhibitions and character that meet and greet, the attraction hopes to provide guests with an intimate glimpse into animation departments and creative processes. It is redesigned to resemble its appearance at Disney's Animation Headquarters in Burbank, even the recognizable Mickey's Sorcerer Hat returns.
This new attraction focused on animation perfectly complements the original Hollywood Studios concept, which celebrates the wonders of animation and filmmaking in the market. It will open in 2026 and provide visitors a new way to engage with Disney's storytelling heritage. With all the things considered, the Magic of Disney Animation will pay tribute to Disney's history while encouraging new viewers to recognize the creativity that goes into their beloved animated films.
