RAIN Alliance Unveils Standardized Quality Assurance for RFID Tags

The RAIN Alliance introduces a standardized quality assurance guideline for RAIN RFID tags worldwide.

The RAIN Alliance, a premier non-profit organization advancing the deployment of Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, announced it has released its RAIN Manufacturing Quality Guideline a major move toward enhancing worldwide quality assurance (QA) procedures for RAIN RFID tags.

With more than 50 billion RAIN tag chips being shipped in 2024 and estimates surpassing 100 billion by 2028, the requirement for a standardized quality assurance has become imperative. The new standard meets this requirement by offering an open, scalable model to certify and verify the quality of RAIN tags across industries such as retail, logistics, health, automotive, and defense.

This initiative guarantees end-user confidence by upholding high-quality standards as RAIN technology grows," said Aileen Ryan, President and CEO of RAIN Alliance. "Our QA and certification infrastructure will enable manufacturers to fulfill global demand efficiently and reliably.

The standard lays down important processes and testing methodologies to achieve uniform tag quality. Consistency, Yield Rate, Reliability, Appearance, and RF Performance are among the crucial quality metrics it establishes. In response to feedback from global stakeholders, it also offers flexible certification pathways that support both self-certification and third-party verification.

The framework's long-term impact was emphasized by Bahar Aliakbarian, Co-Chair of the RAIN Alliance Quality Manufacturing Workgroup: "Our focus is to establish global best practices that deliver speed, scalability, and integrity in QA without sacrificing safety or performance."

The workgroup will continue to develop the guideline further, providing a common language for reporting and validating quality across various use cases. In addition to aiding manufacturers, this activity also builds trust in RAIN technology globally.
