Empowering young minds through recycled school supplies and lessons in environmental responsibility
Rite Foods Limited has donated school supplies, including bags and exercise books, to 2,000 students from low-income communities in Lagos, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of the company, the donation aims to ensure education and motivate young minds to embrace sustainability. Bags were made from recyclable nylon scraps, offcuts from Rite Foods' packaging materials for its products, being environmentally friendly and the essence of recycling.
The donated materials benefited pupils in several schools across the country. In Ogun State, the beneficiaries were pupils at Muslim Primary School, St. Thomas Catholic Primary School, and St. John's Anglican Primary School. In Lagos, Rite Foods took its gesture to schools within the Kosofe Local Government Area, including Oworonsoki Nursery and Primary School, Ayeroju Nursery and Primary School, and Mosafejo Nursery and Primary School.
Rite Foods organized a workshop to teach students about sustainability as part of the project, showing them how waste materials can be turned into practical products like school bags. Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Rite Foods, stressed the importance of education investment and the need to produce a generation that cares about both education and environmental stewardship.
Ismail Ganiyu, Head of Human Resources, stated that he was proud to support the future leaders of Nigeria by providing them with required materials to support their educational development. The initiative is aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Local teachers appreciated the generosity of the company, describing how it enhanced the learning of the children as well as the community.
