AI, Wi-Fi 7, and advanced network systems to enhance fan experience and efficiency.
Kraft Group, parent of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution professional sports franchises, will install a significant upgrade of its network and IT infrastructure to enhance stadium operations along with fan experience. The company is making the move as the group prepares to host events like the World Cup and aims to build a new stadium north of Boston for its soccer team.
Fred Israel, an executive at Kraft Group, said the goal is to have two stadiums controlled from one central office without having to replicate efforts. This would allow one control group to oversee several venues, which would be more efficient and less expensive.
The upgrade will further entail a Wi-Fi infrastructure overhaul, with the firm considering using Wi-Fi 7 in a move to try and meet rising demands. For the 2023 Taylor Swift Eras Tour, Gillette Stadium's network supported over 62,000 users, prompting greater coverage and speed. The upgrades will further entail increased 5G capabilities and wireless access point reconfiguration.
The Kraft Group is also conducting studies on employing AI technologies. Facial recognition will be employed in order to speed up identification verifications at the concession stands, AI-based ticketing systems, and real-time virtual assistance in order to benefit fans.
As far as operations are concerned, AI will support team communications and training schedule, and deliver playbooks to the players.
IT services company NWN is leading the integration of the technologies. CEO Jim Sullivan stated the upgrades would bring applications, infrastructure, and security systems together to give fans a seamless digital experience, both online and in-stadium.
