Blending fashion with innovation, EssilorLuxottica steps into future-ready eye health services.
EssilorLuxottica, the famous manufacturer of Ray-Ban glasses, has said it would acquire Optegra, an eye care platform that employs the latest technology. The deal is part of EssilorLuxottica's strategy to expand in the medical technology sector.
The Franco-Italian giant stated the acquisition would diversify its services from mere eyewear. While EssilorLuxottica still sells frames and lenses, it is also launching wearable technology, medical equipment, AI-driven solutions, and science-driven eye care products.
The startup made an offer to work with Facebook's parent company, Meta, on smart Ray-Ban glasses last year. The collaboration reflects the company's emphasis on leveraging new technology to enhance eyewear.
In the UK, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and the Netherlands, Optegra has over 70 eye clinics and hospitals. Optegra provides vision correction operations and eye treatments. Optegra is distinctive because it employs the latest technology to assist patients prior to and following their surgeries, enhancing care and outcomes.
The acquisition will only be completed after obtaining all necessary clearances, and the financial parameters of the deal were not made public. It is expected that the purchase will finalize by the end of this year.
The acquisition is part of EssilorLuxottica's plan to integrate eyewear, healthcare, and technology. EssilorLuxottica hopes to expand eye health services through the purchase of Optegra without compromising its market leadership in eyewear.
EssilorLuxottica stays ahead of the competition and prepared to service clients looking for fashionable and functional eye care due to the expanding eyecare industry and new developments available.
