Mahindra Aerostructures, Airbus sign a contract to manufacture H130 helicopter fuselage, boosting India’s aviation, aerospace sector.
In a big leap for India's aviation and aerospace industry, Mahindra Aerostructures and Airbus signed a contract on Wednesday to produce the H130 civil helicopter fuselage. The agreement, issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry, was signed during a function headed by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
The deal is a milestone in the journey of India as a global hub for aviation manufacturing. The Indian bases for H130 fuselage production will further reinforce the country's growing aerospace capability. The deal is viewed as a triumph of 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives.
Minister Naidu referred to India's quickening pace of aviation growth, adding that India will be one of the world's biggest civil aviation markets by size, with more than 2,200 planes joining its fleet in the coming two decades. In 2030, passenger traffic will stand at 630 million a year, rising at a compound annual growth rate of 6-8%.
The Minister also emphasized the important role of Indian MSMEs and startups, which provide more than USD 2 billion worth of components to multinational behemoths like Airbus and Boeing each year. He emphasized the contribution of local manufacturing in making India competitive at the global level.
Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam further stated that the contract would introduce advanced technology and jobs to India, as well as enhance Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) capabilities.
The project is a follow-up to earlier milestones, such as the C295 military aircraft final assembly line and the future H125 helicopter final assembly line, further solidifying India's place in the international aerospace manufacturing value chain.
