President Marcos forms SEI Advisory Council to strengthen the Philippines' global role in semiconductors and electronics.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry (SEI) Advisory Council to lead strategic efforts in advancing the Philippines' global standing in the electronics and semiconductor sector. The act is under Administrative Order No. 31, March 28, and was released to the public on Thursday.
The advisory council is also responsible for the development and execution of the Philippine Semiconductor and Electronics Industry (PSEI) Road Map, a master plan that will propel innovation, secure investments, and improve the nation's competitiveness in the global value chain.
"The semiconductor and electronics sector is the pillar of our export economy," President Marcos underscored. "With a five-percent share in the world market, we occupy a very critical position in the semiconductors and electronics packaging value chain."
The SEI Advisory Council will offer strategic advice and industry insights to support effective implementation of the road map through a whole-of-government approach. The council will be chaired by Frederick Go, Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs, and will have as vice chair Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual.
Members are senior officials from principal government agencies like the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Departments of Finance, Energy, Science and Technology, Labor and Employment, and Education. These members also consist of the chairmen of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and one industry representative whose name was not specified.
The creation of the SEI Advisory Council is intended to highlight the government's recognition of the strategic importance of semiconductors and electronics in driving economic growth and ensuring the competitiveness of the nation in an increasingly dynamic technology-based global economy.
