This shows the large benefits that the App Store offers to Indian developers as well as the larger tech community. The survey also shows the importance of the rise of developers located in India, whose worldwide earnings have increased three times over the past five years.
Apple CEO Tim Cook described the App Store as an "economic miracle" for Indian developers, supporting the company's commitment to encouraging invention. Strong app performance was noted in sectors like food delivery, travel, gaming, and entertainment, reflecting the diversity and success of Indian apps on the global stage. With over 755 million downloads worldwide, a figure that has doubled in just five years, 80% of Indian developers' revenue from the App Store now originates from countries outside of India. The success of Indian developers around the world is shown by apps like Raja Vijayaraman's Lumy and Fluid Touch's Noteshelf which are further supported by programs like the Bengaluru Developer Center.
Over the last five years earnings have climbed fivefold and app downloads have tripled in India. Small developers have benefited most from Apple's Small Business Program, which gives lower commissions for smaller developers. Between 2021 and 2024, their App Store profits increased by 74%.
Apple additionally showed the App Store's security and safety measures, noting that between 2020 and 2023 as it blocked over $7 billion in fraudulent transactions involving apps that didn't match quality requirements and rejected over 1.7 million apps.
