ACL grows rapidly with all-American cruises, adding ships and itineraries across 35 U.S. states.
The Guilford, Connecticut-based American Cruise Lines (ACL) is the biggest cruise line in the United States and is still expanding quickly. In 2025, ACL will visit 125 ports in 35 states with a fleet of 21 small ships with more on the way. It offers more than 50 itineraries, including the 51-day "Great United States" voyage, which is the nation's longest domestic river cruise.
The ship has introduced Modern riverboats with glass foyers and individual balconies, such as American Song since it began offering Mississippi River cruises in 2012. Its ships travel the Mississippi, Hudson, Columbia, Potomac and other famous American rivers. Each ship has six different classes that can accommodate fewer than 200 passengers and is built in the United States at the company's Chesapeake Shipbuilding yard in Maryland.
Because every member of the crew is American and all cruises only go through U.S. waterways, ACL places a high value on an all-American experience. The cruise ticket does not cover casinos, swimming pools, or cabins, but it does include Wi-Fi, gratuities, shore excursions and some drinks. Regional and American food is the main focus of the meals, while local history and culture are featured in the onboard entertainment.
According to CEO Charles B. Robertson, the company is showcasing America's varied landscapes and waterways while modernizing the domestic cruise sector. With improved facilities and environmental regulations, the next generation of Patriot-class ships seeks to satisfy changing traveler expectations. ACL is reaffirming its dedication to providing a first-rate, small-ship experience based on American hospitality and heritage by aiming to build at least three ships a year.
