Chipotle announces partnership with Paradox

New conversational AI system set to reduce hiring time by 75% across 3,500 restaurants.

Chipotle has announced a new partnership with Paradox, a conversational AI platform, designed to streamline its recruitment process across its 3,500 locations in North America and Europe. The system will help with administrative tasks, reducing the time it takes to hire employees for in-restaurant positions by up to 75%. The technology is expected to support Chipotle's fall hiring season and assist in reaching the company's goal of expanding to 7,000 restaurants in North America.

Paradox’s AI platform will act as a virtual assistant for Chipotle’s hiring teams, handling routine administrative duties like collecting candidate information, answering queries about the company, scheduling interviews, and sending out job offers. The AI assistant, named Ava Cado, is capable of communicating in English, Spanish, French, and German, making it a versatile tool for Chipotle's diverse workforce.

Ilene Eskenazi, Chipotle’s chief human resources officer, emphasized that the platform will free up general managers to focus on customer service and supporting existing staff, rather than getting bogged down by administrative tasks. This is especially important during peak hiring seasons, such as the company's "burrito season" from March to May.

Chipotle’s partnership with Paradox aims to increase efficiency during major hiring events. For instance, the company’s most recent hiring push involved setting a goal of 19,000 new workers, alongside the introduction of enhanced benefits like student debt assistance, retirement savings tools, and expanded mental health resources.

The AI-driven system is not only expected to reduce hiring times but also lower advertising costs associated with job postings. Additionally, Chipotle anticipates that Paradox will help fill hard-to-recruit positions more effectively by automating the initial stages of the hiring process.

This latest integration is part of Chipotle’s broader strategy to incorporate automation and artificial intelligence to improve both employee and customer experiences. Earlier in 2024, the company began testing an automated makeline developed by Hyphen and introduced the "Autocado" machine, which automates avocado peeling, cutting, and coring in 26 seconds, helping to improve efficiency in food preparation.

With the addition of Paradox’s AI platform, Chipotle is further enhancing its operations while staying competitive in the rapidly evolving fast-food industry.
