Former President Bill Clinton recently discussed the political climate and its potential impact on a woman’s chances of becoming president in an interview with CBS. Reflecting on Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to President-elect Donald Trump, Clinton suggested that a conservative Republican woman might have a better chance at winning the presidency than a Democratic woman.

An unflappable Clinton said he believes the U.S. is ready for a female president, though "all these cultural battles that we're fighting" make it more difficult to elect one. "People are moving right to deal with all of these changes.and it makes it harder for women.in my party," he said, referencing the Democratic Party.

Clinton added: "Maybe. I think in some ways we've moved to the right as a reaction to all the turmoil," and reflected on how "if Hillary Clinton had been nominated in 2008, she would have probably won, like Obama was able to.".

Still, when pressed about whether gender proved an insurmountable obstacle, Clinton said that a Republican woman might have an even better chance at the presidency, pointing to the example of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He expressed his belief that the U.S. would elect a female president in the not-too-distant future.

In addition to discussing women in politics, Clinton also spoke on his new book, Citizen, which discusses personal and political-related topics, including his own past scandal involving Monica Lewinsky. Clinton said he included the subject in his book to help people understand his perspective and to encourage Lewinsky to focus on her future.

Clinton, who campaigned for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, also spoke about the prospect of Trump’s potential return to the presidency, calling it a “travesty” if Trump were to win again.
